Sparc newbie question (again)

I have the machine running great and now I am about to tackle getting X
installed. I downloaded all the packages I needed (I think) and I can get
X started (as root). I can also run "twm". When I attempt to run
afterstep it fails.

I receive a message that says:

PexExtensionInit: Couldn't open default PEX font file Roman_M

I have the following installed:

$ ls -l /usr/lib/X11/fonts/
total 35
drwxr-xr-x   2 root     root         5120 May 12 16:27 100dpi

Is this a permissions thing? I haven't been able to figure it out. On a
side note, X won't start at all for non-root users, it gives "no screens
found". I researched this problem and found that it might be permissions
so I gave write permissions on /dev/kbd,/dev/fb0,/dev/mouse, and
/dev/sunmouse but X still fails.

Can anyone help?

TIA.
