Parallel Port for Sparc IPX?
To get right to the point: Does a parallel port SBUS card exist
for the Sparc? IPX specificly? If it does, where is the best place to go
looking for one?
The reason I ask, is that I bought a Sparc IPX a month or so back
to play around with Linux on (after using Solaris on a Sparc 20 all summer
at work, and knowing there had to be a better OS for this nice hardware).
I haven't had much time to do anything with it (still has its old solaris
install on it, with an unknown root password :). I would like to
eventually hook up my HP LaserJet II to it, and use it at least partly as
a print server for my small network of other Linux/Unix (and single NT
box) machines.
I have been looking for a parallel SBUS card for some time now,
but I have yet to have any luck in locating one. Any pointers to where I
can find them would be greatly appreciated! Also, any information on how
such cards work with Sparc/Linux would be useful.
To give you some background on my experience with Linux and
Sparc... I have been using Linux for three years now, and I have a number
of Alpha, Intel, and m68k based machines running Linux. I have had a
moderate amount of experience with Sparc hardware in the past, and decided
to try out Linux on yet another architecture.
Any help on this question would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
PS. I know I could run the printer via a serial port, but that is
a bit slow for my liking if other options are available.
