There was a bug in the syscall table for new_select syscall which was
interpreted as llseek or something like that in all kernels before 2.0.33.
I've fixed my 2.0.32 a while ago but didn't realized your troubles were coming
from the kernel.

We have to keed in mind this problem to talk about in an hypotetic future FAQ
for the installation step.
