Hi Joost, Thanks for your answer. Citing an "Operating System" is in fact something that I'm not sure how to proceed. But software is something we could cite, and in fact there is a movement inside the academic field to give more visibility and to recognize the work of software authors. In the last few years some initiatives were created to improve the quality of software citation, one example is the CITATION File Format (CFF)[1], it provides citation metadata for software or datasets. Another example is the CodeMeta Project[2], but those 2 examples are mainly designed for software projects created with academic purpose in mind, what is not the case of Debian, however I don't think it hurts to bring those into Debian, if possible. By citing Debian I mean a citation to the Debian project as a whole rather then citing a specific package inside Debian. When I search on Google Scholar for the string below. "Debian Operating System" I can find some results, such as [1] and [2], that could be used to cite "Debian - The Operating System" but I'm not sure it would be the best approach. Do you have any recommendation or references where can I find more info about this topic? So The Debian Operating System we ship is not a publication which could be cited? My € 0,02. Bye, Joost
