at the recent Python Language Summit at PyCon US 2021 I got the question if
Debian is packaging tensorflow (couldn't answer this question and promised to
follow-up). I realize that the package in Debian was removed, because bazel was
missing in the archive. There seems to be work now on bazel.
Yes, Wookey and Francis are working on TensorFlow packaging under the Deep Learning team [1]. It's challenging work for them because we're still only on Phase 2 of our Bazel packaging effort. [2] (And currently waiting on a binary package change to clear NEW. That change is blocking the next few packages we have targeted at experimental.) That being said, we're trying to support TensorFlow packaging as much as possible.
bazel-bootstrap-data currently depends on some nodejs packages. Is this really
needed for the bootstrap? Asking because the nodejs packages are not yet
available on all architectures.
I'll look into that when I get back to my dev machine. Off the top of my head, I believe that dependency was to prevent duplicate files (i.e. files that lintian informed me were already packaged in nodejs) in some of the Bazel documentation.
And, where's the best place to follow discussions on bazel and tensorflow?
I copied the Debian Bazel mailing list and the Debian Science list since I understand the Deep Learning team is currently using the Science team list for coordination.
