He is also the upstream of python-scientific (orphaned). I did not yet fill an ITP for mmtk. But it is in preparation. Here at SOLEIL[1] we developped at least a software on top of mmtk, so I am evaluating the amount of work for packaging it. Then I will certainly fill an ITP for mmtk. This is also the way I work, I do the packaging and if the upstream is responsive enought (integration of packaging patch, bugs etc...) and after a few iteration of upstream version, it is ok for me to take the responsability for the package, so I endorse the ITP. I am using the debian-science infrastructure to share the work via the repository. > git://anonscm.debian.org/debian-science/packages/mmtk.git > > It's probably quite cool to have this in Debian but would you mind > sharing your attempt with Debian Science and probably even more > importantly with DebiChem? I understand your concern about publicity to avoid parallel works. Maybe I should have advertize my work a little bit more on the mailing list, and maybe the first step would be to fill the ITP first... or maybe an RFP is more adequate in my case. > I just was wondering whether this is also of > some interest for Debian Med and I should mention it on our tasks pages > or not - but it should definitely be mentioned on the DebiChem tasks > pages. In fact this mmtk package is for now a black box for me. I spoke with the upstream to propose a good Description of this package, which is for now not understandable for a non-specialist. In fact this Description step is a pre-requis before filling an ITP or RFP, exactly for this advertizing effect. I just start the work this week-end so let me a little more time before every things will be set up ;) correctly. And maybe I will be able to answer your question if it is of some interest for DebiChem :). > > Kind regards and thanks for your effort Regards Frederic PS: I am thinks about a way to organize the work done by synchrotron-radiation facilities to share as much as possible our scientific software efforts. I will try to find some time to send a mail explaining this efforts. Nevertheless I started a page about this on the wiki [2].
