I doubt this is important, but

   echo NO_OPENSSL=1 >>config.mak &&
>  make; # or make -j20, or whatever is most convenient

The other options keep the dependencies minimal for easier testing; this
option ensures the fast SHA-1 implementation bundled with Git is used
instead of the OpenSSL version.
