I use cupsys for printing (which can emulate an LPD server if other
machines insist on that old protocol), and can be configured through any
web browser on port 631 or using command line tools.  There are a bunch
of helper apps like foomatic and cupsomatic with printer definision
files to make getting a specific printer model setup really easy.  Worth
looking at.
