В etch есть. Дело в том, что в etch фильтр pstopdf
(/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops) не из gs, а из xpdf,
а это часть его конфигурационного файла.
Попробуйте подергать фильтр напрямую.

Вероятно, Ваша проблема связана с тем, что затем
используется новый фильтр pstopxl, вывод которго Вашему принтеру
не по силам. Он же зеографик на самом деле, а не HP, они просто
лицензию (или всю лавку купили). Попробуйте вместо pxlmono
использовать старую добрую связку
pstoraster -> rastertohp
То есть вместо pxlmono.ppd используйте laserjet.ppd
И на всякий случай
