i've been speaking to the binutils development team about the
[insane] thrashing that goes on during linker phase [and has been for
some time]. he recommends trying out "-Wl,--no-keep-memory", i
thought you might appreciate knowing about that, it may even help on
native compilations [and/or under qemu]. as you've no doubt found out
already, you do *not* want to go into swap on qemu builds :) archlinux
(parabola) found that qemu-arm is guaranteed to crash at the linker
phase if the emulated OS starts thrashing.
