Hi Adrian,
for 32-bit support removal, yes, it is necessary: 32-bit support is draining a
significant part of our "quality" (focus) time and of the help we receive from
other DDs, while scientific computing on 32-bit machines is basically dead.
Little-endian removal may be heavy-handed but also there is no upstream support
for these architecture in the R world, and if we would want to push it from
Debian I think that it would be more healthy to 1) do it actively with someone
in charge and not reactively like now, and 2) focus on the R packages that
matter the most first.
In any case, if making a couple of exceptions will make porter life easier,
I will be all for it.
