Bug#1103888: unblock: libayatana-appindicator-glib/2.0.0~git20250307.66f8279-2
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian.org@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock
Please unblock package libayatana-appindicator-glib
[ Reason ]
This package was uploaded to unstable/NEW already on Mar 7th and got only
processed by ftpmasters on Apr 13th. This package provides a new way for
providing appindicator applets (via a successor of SNI protocol
implementation) for app developers. We (upstream maintainer and myself)
would like to provide support for appindicator-glib starting with Debian
13. The new appindicator-glib implementation is free of dbusmenu and
GTK-3 dependencies. We (upstream and myself) consider it a potential
future for appindicator based app development.
This appindicator rewrite will also provide the means to drop dbusmenu
(dead upstream long ago) from distributions and provide a less
DBus-chatty approach for sending application menu structures over DBus.
[ Impact ]
None, really. Except from the future not having a sneak preview as
originally planned.
[ Tests ]
Builds and unit-tests fine.
[ Risks ]
None.
[ Checklist ]
[x] all changes are documented in the d/changelog
[x] I reviewed all changes and I approve them
[ ] attach debdiff against the package in testing
(package is not yet in testing)
[ Other info ]
We also originally planned to provide an ayatana-indicator-application
version that provides support for both kinds of appindicator clients: the
new implementation provided by libayatana-appindicator-glib and the old
SNI implementation (still utilizing a stripped down variant of dbusmenu).
