Hi release team,
as discussed in #691185, please consider Perl 5.14.3 for wheezy.
Beside the PR benefits of releasing with a fresh version, shipping 5.14.3
would allow us to drop 17 patches that have been merged upstream.
The upstream rules for stable updates are quite strict; see the
'MAINTENANCE BRANCHES' section in perlpolicy(1) of the perl-doc package
for details.
The full diff against 5.14.2-15 (in sid, unblocked for wheezy) is at
http://people.debian.org/~ntyni/perl/perl_5.14.3-1.gitdiff
http://people.debian.org/~ntyni/perl/perl_5.14.3-1.debdiff
The first is generated with 'git diff', and I recommend it over the
second one due to a deficiency in debdiff (see #688219).
filterdiff -p1 --exclude=pod/\* --exclude=debian/patches/\* --exclude=README\* --exclude=AUTHORS
gives
41 files changed, 1024 insertions(+), 248 deletions(-)
of which 660 insertions are in Module::CoreList.
Full upstream changelog:
http://search.cpan.org/~dom/perl-5.14.3/pod/perldelta.pod
Debian packaging:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=perl/perl.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/ntyni/debian-5.14.3
This would include a small transition: libpar-packer-perl,
libdevel-cover-perl, and libclass-xsaccessor-perl would need binNMUs to
become installable with 5.14.3. A newer libmodule-corelist-perl would
also be needed.
libperl-apireference-perl would start to FTBFS. 5.14.3 support was added
upstream in 0.10, and Dominic has prepared an updated package in the
pkg-perl git repository.
