I'm not sure how useful it is to keep the original bug attached to the
package, though, as it's essentially reporting a resolved state,
rather than a new bug.

It describes an issue affecting a particular version of your package; assuming it is indeed fixed in the version indicated, then it could also marked as resolved in that version. That seems exactly like the sort of information that I'd expect to be in a bug report assigned to the package; it also makes it more likely that anyone else experiencing the issue can find the information in the BTS.

Please follow-up to the cloned bug including the information requested in the freeze policy / reportbug template - at the very minimum a full source debdiff between the current wheezy version and the version you're requesting
an unblock for.

Noted. If you could point me to the number of the cloned bug, I'll
gladly continue the procedure there. :)

From the log of the bug you replied to:

Bug 692569 cloned as bug 692600 Request was from "Adam D. Barratt" <adam@adam-barratt.org.uk> to control@bugs.debian.org. (Wed, 07 Nov 2012 19:33:07 GMT) Full text and rfc822 format available.

:)

Adam
