Upstream ChangeLog file summarises all cumulative changes since 1.7, so
most of that is not relevant to this unblock request
I attach the following:

The changes for 1.8.5 can be ignored, they only impact Windows users

This was the first release built with autotools and libtool, with SONAME
and ABI version data set properly for packaging.
Therefore, it wasn't widely promoted for a few weeks while the team
upstream verified that everything was OK, and also for users of unstable
to verify that upstream has released something that fits within the
expectations of the Debian community.
You can verify that each release tarball 1.8.* has been announced on the
developer list, with a checksum signed by my own key, so we know what
has gone into Debian is built from the official upstream tarballs.
