On behalf of the Xfce team, I'd say we'd like to release Squeeze with
Xfce 4.6, which is already in testing. Basically things are fine for the
moment, 4.8 is not really at the corner so there's definitely no need to
look at it for now. Xfce 4.6 is in good shape at the moment, some time
might be needed to be spent on the desktop-base task (and maybe
xfce-desktop task) but nothing involving transitions.
