Please allow ethtool 6+20080913-1 into lenny. It is a new upstream snapshot but has only small changes relative to 6+20080227. The change that I think justifies this is the addition of control over Large Receive Offload (LRO), which is enabled by default in many 10G Ethernet drivers but may not be appropriate for all environments.
