Summary of python transition problems
(cc'ed to -release for general information)
Hi folks,
Here's a summary of the problems currently blocking python2.3 from
testing. It may be slightly incomplete, but I think I've got most of
them.
Buggy packages
==============
* garchiver: #210828
* gimp-python: #207304
* lincredits: conflicts with newer python, waiting for bug number
* pyddr: blocked by pydance bug, #212845
* python-imaging: #212853, blocks forg, sketch
* quantlib-python: #213089 (mips buildd problem?)
python-gnome
============
* python-gnome is waiting for a newer freetype, which should be fairly
easy, and needs to wait out its 10-day delay.
* python-gnome is lacking a mips build for some reason. This
contributes to holding back a lot of other packages: affix,
configlet, glimmer, gnome-tasksel, pydict, pyne, sql-editor, xkeysw,
and zwm at least.
* Other packages waiting for python-gnome: gimp-python, pybliographer,
python-gtkextra.
External dependencies
=====================
* ecasound2.2: jack-audio-connection-kit (complicated; may have to
remove ecasound2.2 from testing temporarily to simplify things)
* glimmer: freetype (should be simple)
* python-gd: freetype (should be simple)
* python-gnome2: nautilus (being worked on by GNOME team, blocks
eroaster, routeplanner)
* python-ldap: cyrus-sasl2 (#211156, #212318, #212945; needs heimdal
and krb4; heimdal is also buggy, #205592; krb4 needs a mips build)
Missing builds
==============
* affix: hppa
* ecasound: mips mipsel
* ecasound2.2: mips
* gaby: m68k mips
* libapache2-mod-python: powerpc
* newt: hppa
* pyogg: mipsel
* python-gnome2: s390
* python-gtkextra: hppa mips
* pyvorbis: mipsel, blocks jack, mc-foo
* xkeysw: hppa
Normal pre-testing delays
=========================
* affix (2 of 10)
* fixedpoint (4 of 10)
* gimp-python (2 of 10)
* gnome-tasksel (2 of 10)
* newt (5 of 10)
* nicotine (3 of 10, blocks pyslsk)
* pydict (2 of 10)
* pyne (3 of 10)
* python-gtkextra (2 of 10)
* python-happydoc (4 of 10)
* python-pmw (1 of 10, blocks forg, mc-foo, med-bio, pktei, pymol)
* python-scientific (2 of 10)
* python-stats (4 of 10)
* pyvtk (0 of 10)
* solarwolf (4 of 10)
* sql-editor (2 of 10)
* xkeysw (2 of 10)
* zwm (2 of 10)
Hope that helps with NMU planning and so on. It would be helpful if we
could regard Python packages as being in a mini-freeze for the moment,
with RC bug fixes only; having to wait for lots of 10-day testing delays
is going to be a pain otherwise.
Cheers,
