Mmm, according to the above:

QSGRendererInterface::OpenGL	2	OpenGL ES 2.0 or higher

gles stands for OpenGL ES, so it should be working...

I have the gut feeling that the code would simply work if you remove lines 299 to 305, ie, only switch to software if required, then let Qt "do the right thing". Or at leats the default :-D

The difference is that libqt5[gui quick quickparticles]5-gles are compiled against OpenGL ES instead of "Desktop" (normal) OpenGL.

Sadly on Linux you can't switch the OpenGL implementation at runtime, so one needs to compile against OpenGL or OpenGL ES (gles).
