Package: kde-standard
Version: 5:55
Severity: normal

If a user logs in while being a member of the staff group, desktop effect are suspended.
These can be enabled again and will function normally during the session.

If the user is removed from staff, desktop effects are enabled after login.

I'm using the radeon driver with an ati mobility x300.

This might be related to bug #573080

Let me know if more info is required.

Regards,

Maarten

¡Hola Falkon!

I can confirm that the behavior matches that bug.

Setting DisableChecks=true seems to work as well. (five or six consecutive logins without issues)

If I'm reading the Debian version right, I'm running KDE 4.3.1 (Debian squeeze/testing x86 package kde-standard, fully up to date.)

I'm also using the Xorg (1.7.5) radeon driver with EXA acceleration mode and use KDM to log in.

I'm not certain if it is related, but I'm using grub2 with GFX mode 1400x1050x32 (My laptop's native resolution) and gfx payload = keep (To keep that resolution in my console as well) Kernel mode setting is not enabled.

Let me know if you need me to run some tests or provided some additional info.

The upstream issue has been fixed with the version 4.5.5, I'm closing this issue with the upload to Debian that included this fix.

Happy hacking,
