The 4.8.4-4 changelog reads:

kde-workspace (4:4.8.4-4) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
   * The package (re)building switches to XZ compression. (Closes: #688761)

But 4.8.4-4 is obviously not a new upstream release.

This was introduced by http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-kde/kde-sc/kde-workspace.git;a=commitdiff;h=77bd5bdfe2492f8561736bdc7d4eeeeae5b7dd72

the rebuild will make use of xz compression (#688761)
