With this problem being unreproducible for a lot of people I think important is
sufficient.

Could you please try removing (or better moving out of the way)
.local/share/akonadi and then try again? You could also try with a different
user that doesn't have old stuff lying around.

I take it you mean MUA which kmail is and not MTA which kmail is not, but the
urgency surprises me. If you cannot do your email with a different tool/on a
different system you might want to reconsider the idea of using sid.
