The daemon displays a message box stating "There is N updates available", which is
incorrect English.

For N = 1, it should read: "There is N update available" (note singular "update").
For N != 1, it should read "There are N updates available" (note verb "are").

Hi

This is fixed in the latest upload of update-notifier-kde (src:kingston-
update-notifier)

It has been reported there a couple of times. I'm just closing this bug 
unversioned.
