OK, thanks.  I need GNOME, so I'll keep the package.  As a workaround,
I run 'gnome-settings-daemon' and then 'gnome-keybooard-settings' in
KDE session, which allows me to configure repeat delay with GNOME
program ;)  Not really convenient because of the extra step of running
the programs, but better than to wait forever (I like a very short
delay) for the repeat to kick in each time.

Anyway, I hope you will figure out what to do to resolve this
conflict.
