Ok, I select the Cryptography plugin, choose the PGP key, check the
first box, leave the other unchecked, and choose the first option out of
three. Then I click on OK.

Now?

I tried to go through every function available when right- or
left-clicking a list's contact, but I couldn't find any reference to the
plugin!
And obviously my outgoing messages are not encrypted (at least I think
so, 'cause I get no dialog box asking for the secret pass phrase).

I'm closing the bug. Perhaps a wishlist bug could be filled in
upstream kopete asking to warn the user that restarting the app is
    required after activating a plugin.

And don't get me wrong - I don't mind getting proven wrong. I change my
opinions the way some people change underwear. And I think that's ok.
