I think that would be a good idea to send the message through the
nnnnn-submitter@bugs.debian.org alias, so that both the BTS and the
original submitter gets a copy of the message. Leaving a copy in
the BTS is a good idea because then other people will have an idea
about when the submitter had been contacted to verify the bug.

Well, I don't think that would be a good idea.

Then the bug remains open. Unless you want to fix the bugs yourself,
there is really no point in asking for more information.
