As you may know, the GPL is not compatible with XForms and
packages that depend on XForms need to use another license or
contain some sort of exception clause.

Since the upstream author of this package has released the code
under the GPL, the intentions are good and he/she/they should be
receptive to adding an exception clause. I brought this up on
debian-legal to find an exception clause that people could agree
on. This is the result, which you may feel free to use as a
suggestion to the upstream author:

+ You may link this software with XForms (Copyright (C) by T.C. Zhao and
+ Mark Overmars) and distribute the resulting binary, under the
+ restrictions in clause 3 of the GPL, even though the resulting binary is
+ not, as a whole, covered by the GPL. (You still need a separate license
+ to do so from the owner(s) of the copyright for XForms, however). If a
+ derivative no longer requires XForms, you may use the unsupplemented GPL
+ as its license by deleting this paragraph and therefore removing this
+ exemption for XForms.

Note that I added the "+" sign here to indicate the added clause
to the GPL. Remove them from the actual license.

Thanks,

Peter Galbraith <psg@debian.org>
