Just received this feedback from an user:

06:39 <someone> pretty cool, to have automatic power saving on
                multiuser/multimachine managed machines (when people have
                cronjobs, day/week long running jobs and in-between-nfs
                mountes between the managed machines)

So it's not like pm-utils is not used or used little.
