Package: slimp3
Version: 4.2.6-2
Severity: wishlist

The Debian distributed source of slimp3 contains the following binaries:

bin:
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 2 501 99 4096 Oct 7 2003 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
drwxr-xr-x 2 501 99 4096 Oct 7 2003 darwin
drwxr-xr-x 2 501 99 4096 Oct 7 2003 i386-freebsd
drwxr-xr-x 2 501 99 4096 Oct 7 2003 i386-linux-thread-multi
drwxr-xr-x 2 501 99 4096 Oct 7 2003 i386-openbsd

bin/MSWin32-x86-multi-thread:
total 0

bin/darwin:
total 164
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 99 105080 Oct 7 2003 mDNSResponderPosix
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 99 51208 Oct 7 2003 mov123

bin/i386-freebsd:
total 80
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 99 77392 Oct 7 2003 mDNSResponderPosix

bin/i386-linux-thread-multi:
total 80
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 99 75940 Oct 7 2003 mDNSResponderPosix

bin/i386-openbsd:
total 88
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 99 86016 Oct 7 2003 mDNSResponderPosix

These are *not* included in the resulting .deb, but I find no copyright
on those binaries. I *suspect* they are covered by APSL, which IIRC
isn't DFSG compliant.

Also, in the source distribution, a firmware file is distributed. In
newer upstream releases it is made clear that "Squeezebox firmare may
not be redistributed under any circumstances". However, they still do
distribute the mDNSResponderPosix without any license - only
*Perl* code is GPLd.

A license clarification might be due for the source distribution.

You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/333879 in Debian BTS
against the package slimp3. I'm closing it at *unstable*, but it will
remain open for older distributions.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/303617. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
