Package: fonter
Version: 1.7-8

fonter operates on the font which is currently loaded (eg. with
setfont). It does not read fonts from a file. If it is invoked with
a filename as an argument, the filename is silently ignored.

This can be confusing when trying to edit the file of the font which
is currently loaded, or a font which looks similar. The man page
doesn't make this clear; it doesn't say that you can edit a font by
invoking fonter with the filename as an argument, but nor does it say
where else fonter would be getting the data from.

I suggest that something along the lines of my first paragraph be
added to the fonter man page to make this somewhat unexpected
  behaviour more obvious.

You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/205834 in Debian BTS
against the package fonter. I'm closing it at *unstable*, but it will
remain open for older distributions.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/300591. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
