if the last is a strong requirement, honestly it seems fragile:
~/.gitconfig applies to all the git repos I have (and I may want to
specify a tag format there), while what is set in debian/.git-dpm (is
this the file where the tag format is set right?) should override
what's in ~/.gitconfig .
