I am sure there are other great uses that I myself simply haven't realized

Some data points:
LWN editors are following Planet Debian Derivatives.
Some folks have used parts of the code to lint their own apt repos.
Yes, I am one of the people that has done this and that's what initially
brought me to the derivatives project. I have since contributed a couple
patches, and noticed a bug in apt-ftparchive because of said tools.
I more regularly use the dose3 tools, but with the inspiration of the census
tools and dose3, wrote a python script to check one repository against another
and ensure all the packages in repository A were newer than that of repository
B. I later ended up sharing this script with someone in #debian-derivatives
seeking that exact thing.
So if nothing else the derivatives project was a great source of tools,
inspiration for new scripts, and sharing of said scripts. As well as bug
reports.
Some folks have looked at the generated patches.
I also think the patches are very useful! It's great to have something other
than ubuntudiff to check out patches from the various derivatives.
