Yeah, I know what he said, but this actually is a good place for this:
Debian's very real usability separates it pretty much from all others
I've ever used, although I've actually only fully test driven a small
handful (~five to eight) of the others.
I'm abject poverty. Very literally the absolute bottom of the barrel,
the bottom 2 to 5%, yet Debian helps me keep up within a very few
short hours, sometimes even minutes, of the developers' latest
updates.... on dialup Internet access. Debian accomplishes this feat
for me via the "debootstrap" option for installing Debian.
Instead of anywhere from 500MB+ to one or two GIGABYTES of absolute
necessary initial installation download, Debian's debootrap method for
Sid Unstable this week is under 200MB. That's doable on dialup because
previous installation files, "dot deb" archive files, are easily and
*singularly* reusable.
Easily reusable, *singular* dotDeb archive files help keep any given
newest installation to sometimes a mere 50MB or so, which was Sid's
approximate actual new download number this week. I fed and walked the
dogs, refilled some bird feeders, changed out some bird baths, came
back in.... and it was already a done deal on that one recent
afternoon.
That's a hint to please always help keep that a reality for others.
It' remains nothing short of amazing to me as an impoverished end
user. *grin*
