Can I have Debian with the good old Gnome 2?

You will need to install squeeze and never upgrade from it:

http://www.debian.org/releases/squeeze/
Is it so bad ? I mean it is updated from the official repositories and security updates are there and so on.. So I can live with not updating it . . . and who makes a dist-upgrade on a laptop all the time?

If you want a GNOME 2 like experience, you will have to either switch
to Xfce or another desktop or get involved with the MATE or Cinammon
desktop projects and help package those for Debian.

I tried MATE and it is not my cup of tea. I had lots of problems with it on a ubuntu,.
From what I read the Cinammon thing is unfinished and is not Gnome 2.?
or maybe he should test Gnome Classic (the fallback mode)?

( i am female)
Unfortunately, with Ubuntu again, I was unable to start that famous fallback mode. I followed every step of every instruction that I found, re-installing the linux in the mean time and no luck, Sir, it just did not like me. I am not so stupid for a girl but I had no luck at all.

Thank you for your help!
