The issue isn't that secrecy is required; just that discussing these things in public on Debian fora turns into a grandstanding exercise or a lot of bikeshedding, neither of which help resolve the initial concern. Technically, fixing security vulnerabilities in packages used by on d.o machines is an answer to your question.
