First of all, congratulations for your new job.

However, about this quoted part, I have some remarks: if we can't handle
being swamped by users, if we can't handle people wanting to contribute,
if we can't handle people wanting to change stuff, and if our only way
to cope with that is to be defensive and erect barriers, then we are a
failure.  Failure in communication, failure in organizing our work,
failure in asking for help, failure on handling our resources.

Finally, I prefer to consider such failures to fix ASAP rather than
something we're stuck with.
