I think you're referring to coverage like
http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/2000/0/ns-12411.html . It doesn't talk about an
alliance. "SuSE joins Debian in designing version of its distribution
specifically for the Mac" should be read as something like "Like Debian
already did, SuSE will make a Mac version of its distribution".
