I have exhausted the skill set at my disposal. It looks like a resurgance
of what was deemed a kernel bug but the kernel is dark, unknown territory
for me. I'm unsure whether #478062 should be reopened or a new bug filed
against a linux-image 3.16 package. Hopefully, someone will step in at
this point to take this further.

I don't know. If you have concerns, one might expect reverting to the
previous kernel to have printing as an outcome.

(Regarding your previous mails not getting through to debian-printing: I
had forgotten they had attachments and these probably exceeded the size
accepted by the list. Not your fault, but something for me to remember).
