Hi,

There is a bug when cups is starting which I encounter only on one spezific hardware.
When cups is starting all my devices on the PS/2 port stop working.
When this is done on system startup no mouse or keyboard input is recognized anymore.
When cups is started via '/etc/init.d/cups start', the last key typed (\n) is repeated enlessly.

This happens when 'modprobe -q -b parport_pc' is called in the init script. By setting $LOAD_LP_MODULE to "no" in /etc/default/cups the problem can be bypassed for me, but I think it would be better to find the reason anyway since there may be some others that encounter the problem. It was not easy for me to track it down to cups since there is no obvious relation to a keyboard or mouse.

In the past year the problem showed up from time to time, letting the PS/2 work some times, than occasionally not working which made it quite difficult to track the problem. Witrh newer kernels I can nearly 100% reproduce the problem on Debian 6. It is also seen on an aptosid 2011-02 installation with latest kernels in 32bit environment.
I currently have these two installations to reproduce the problem and run test if it needed.

Greetings,
Florian

Dear Debian User,

Further information on your issue was requested some time ago but there
has been no response from you. Use of our limited, volunteer supported
resources is best served by not keeping open inactive bugs any longer
than desirable, especially when the package concerned is older than the
current stable and oldstable Debian versions. Consequently, the report
is now being closed.

You may, of course, wish to review the reported problem. It would be
appreciated if any future investigation could be conducted using the
testing or unstable distributions. If considered necessary, this report
could be re-opened or a new bug report, possibly referencing this one,
submitted. Please ensure the problem is one which directly concerns
cups.

Thank you for your report.

Regards,

Brian.
