In these old days (that I never experienced myself), I suppose there
were more volunteers with collectively more time and bandwidth than
Brian and myself have currently on src:cups bugs.

I do certainly agree it's a pain inflicted on Debian bug submitters, and
I've just reported it upstream for you on this ground.
Brian: would you be open to get yourself an account there? That would
remove friction from your (awesome) bug triaging work…
