A text file prints, but not a PDF; I'm perplexed. Why should the file
type make a difference? #638540 describes something similar.

You might have done this before, but does a text file print again
immediately after sending the first one? Or, after switching on the
machine and printer, does the PDF print at all when sent as the first
file?

Thank you for the offer.

You mentioned that the 'bad' PDFs print on a Ubuntu system. If you still
have the system it would be useful to know the Ubuntu version and the
cups versions used on it. Also, I'm assuming your printers are accessed
over the network; is that correct? The outputs of

   lpstat -t
   dpkg -l | grep avahi
   ps ax | grep avahi

might be of use.

Frank, please do not forget to send your mails to 693658@bugs.debian.org,
not just to me.

Regards,

Brian.
