Excellent.  At least we are getting somewhere now.

Have a look at the bug I referenced.

There is an issue as CUPS returns details according to locale setting (LANG) 
but hplip only understands LANG=en responses.  It has been forwarded upstream, 
but they haven't done much about it :-(
