hal-cups-utils appears to have been installed during the lenny install process:So I suggest trying to remove hals-cups-utils (if installed), which looks like is the cause of these problems.

Maybe this is not a cups fault, but it is a nuisance. If this other package is the fault, is it possible to re-assign the bug to the other package?
The package name is hal-cups-utils (not hals-cups-utils) I will see what happens if the package is removed.
