IIRC, they have had some models in the past that were different in the
US, Europe and Japan. I may be wrong, though--I can't recall any
details.

Please could you tell me what the output of these commands is:
STP_DEBUG= escputil -i -r /dev/lp0
STP_DEBUG= escputil -e -r /dev/lp0
STP_DEBUG= escputil -d -r /dev/lp0
STP_DEBUG= escputil -s -r /dev/lp0
(where /dev/lp0 needs to be your printer device)
