Or simply hold the option key. It looks like this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Option_key

At the chime, hold it, and don't release it until you see a screen with
cursor. Then you can let go of the key, wait until the Mac has
discovered all bootable options (may take quite a while, because it will
also look for network boot options) and finally select the debian
installation CD/DVD (the one with the penguin).

While on the firmware boot selection screen, you can use the Eject key
of your keyboard (if it has one) and after the CD/DVD is in the drive
select the reload button.
Apple keyboards normally have an eject key:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Keyboard
PC keyboards don't.

If you need to eject and boot from a Mac without the use of the
installed OS first, go to Open Firmware (Opt+Alt+O+F) and enter "eject
cd:". Then either boot like you did, by issuing the command "boot
cd:,\\:tbxi" – also try "boot cd:".
If that does not work you need to restart the mac after the CD/DVD is in
the drive and either hold "c" (which will try to boot from the CD/DVD
drive) or hold the Option key (which will let you choose at the firmware
boot selection screen).

Sometimes if a CD/DVD does not boot, it is either the wrong version
(i.e. "ppc64le" instead of "powerpc") or the CD/DVD is faulty. Did you
check if the CD/DVD is readable from within Mac OS X?

Good luck,
