Yes, and the FAQ has info on fixing the messed up colors by enabling the Radeon framebuffer and enabling 24-bit colors with a xorg.conf file.  It doesn't specifically mention the X800, but your symptoms sound similar to those suffered by certain iBooks and eMacs noted in the FAQ.
