Yes, and the FAQ has info on fixing the messed up colors by enabling the Radeon framebuffer and enabling 24-bit colors with a xorg.conf file. It doesn't specifically mention the X800, but your symptoms sound similar to those suffered by certain iBooks and eMacs noted in the FAQ.

have 640x480 and screwed up colours.

Specifically the section about G3 iBooks and eMacs having
blank screens. The "nomodeset" mentioned in the
FAQ does the same thing as "radeon.modeset=0".
