First boot after fresh install fails

Sorry, that was too quick.

Dear list-subscribers,
this is my first attempt at Linux, so pls bear with me.

After doing a faultless fresh install on the second internal HD, all attempts at booting debian failed at the same stage. All answers I found elsewhere were from different setups, and I'm still to new to Linux to interpret them right.

Here's the case:
Power Mac G5 (11,2), dual 2.3 GHz, 5,5 GB RAM, HD1 OSX 10.5.8, HD2 Debian GNU/Linux 7.2.0 "Wheezy"

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
   - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
   - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

Assuming the solution to be ultimately trivial, I still need your detailed help to move on with it.
