There is another way!

I've compiled yaboot from 
http://yaboot.ozlabs.org/snapshots/yaboot-1.3.15-rc.tar.gz
and copied to the server's /tftpboot directory and... it works! It
takes a lot longer to get to bootprompt but it works.
