The other poster was right, try out compiling all the support for the
filesystems in your kernel.
If that doesn't work there are several things you can try:
1. Launch 'fdisk' and try to print out the partition table. You can
also verify the partition table from within fdisk. If fdisk recognizes
it then that is a good sign and it could be just that your kernel
doesn't have support for it.
2. You can recreate the partion table using fdisk or gparted. I am not
sure if this will format your data but if you just want to reuse the
disk this maybe an option.
3. If you need to recover data from a disk, use 'photorec' it is a
great app and can recover almost anything.
4. Try force mounting the disk. e.g. mount /dev/sda /mnt/disk.
5. Use 'TestDisk' http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk It's open
source and from the same place that makes photorec. It can fix and
recover partition tables, etc.
I think you should take a look at #5 first and go from there.
