Apparently, the CD that you have is for a x86 architecture. If that is indeed
the case, then it won't boot from a powerpc.

Depending on how much RAM you have, you might like to use a live CD (like
Ubuntu's) and run gparted from there (without mounting any partition from your
hard drive, of course).

Failing that, is there anything like the Firewire/target mode for powermacs? In
that case, you might want to use that as a way to resize your root partition. Or
you could temporarily move the HD to another machine that can run gparted for you.
